General information

What is it?

LipoCryo is a new technology that results in localized fat reduction within a selective and noninvasive procedure.

How does it work?

A special transducer is positioned on the selected area in order to combine vacuum action to capture the subcutaneous tissue and selective cryotechnology to cool it. Fat cells (adipocytes) in the subcutaneous tissue (under dermis) are mostly saturated fatty acids rich cells, and as a consequence, particularly sensitive to cold exposure; by contrast, the contiguous elements such as blood vessels, peripheral nervous system, melanocytes, fibrocytes, or poor fat cells are much less sensitive to cool exposure. This feature definitely results in the adipocytes elimination without damaging the surrounding tissues.

How are fat cells are eliminated?

The elimination process of exposed adipocytes to LipoCryo action is produced directly by crystallization, followed by apoptosis and progressive cell dissolution with gradual lipids release during 2 to 6 weeks time.

How many sessions are needed?

According to the adipose tissue thickness and the desired reduction, we will need from 1 to 3 sessions. Preferably waiting time between 2 sessions will be about 45 days.

What will the results be and when will the patient see them?

Depending on the initial adipose tissue thickness, the average loss will be between 3 and 15 mm; in terms of loss percentage of adipose tissue, the equivalence is 25% to 45%. Approximately 40% of the result will be visible at 15 days, but we will have to wait at least 6 weeks to appreciate the average results. At this moment, the decision of another session will be taken.

How long does the treatment last?

According to the treating area extension, more than a single application can be necessary to cover the entire area. For instance, we may need 2 applications for abdominal area, 1 for each flank, and 2 for the lower back area. Each application will last about 25 to 35 minutes, depending on the adipose tissue thickness. Thus, depending on the size of the treating area and the adipose tissue thickness, the application may last from 20 to 180 minutes.

Who is the ideal candidate for the LipoCryo procedure?

LipoCryo is particularly indicated for local adiposities: the ideal candidate is not the obese patient with generalized adiposity, but the one who wants to reduce local fat concentrated for instance in the abdomen, flanks, lower back, arms and buttocks.

What does the patient feel during and after the session?

The procedure is not painful for patients; they will notice a slight tension close to the treated area due to the vacuum effect, and an intense cold local feeling, mainly at the beginning of the procedure. And after the session:

- Usually: redness and numbness in the treated area that can last a couple of hours.

- Exceptionally: slight hematoma that will resorb within a few days. The patient can incorporate to normal activity without special discomfort immediately after the session.

Main difference compared with other procedures?

The LipoCryo system for selective and controlled adipocytes cooling, results in a notable and natural reduction of fat tissue, avoiding the traumatic experience of invasive methods (liposuction), and preventing from the risk of damage on contiguous tissues as it can occur with radiofrequencies, focalized ultrasounds or lasers.

Are the results definitive?

Adipocytes eliminated by the LipoCryo procedure will gradually release their lipids first, before being definitively absorbed by the natural body metabolism.
